IE Favorites File

Don

I recently upgraded to win xp. Recently I messed up the files such that
favorites is located at Documents and settings/Don/laptop
transfer/favorites. IE accesses my favorites here and adds new favorites to
this file. How can I restore the original configuration to where favorites
resides at documents and settings/don/favorites. It apparently is not as
simple as merely moving the folder (Windows won't let me do that). Thanks
for your help.

Don,

The favorites Shell Folder is set incorrectly in the registry. Open Registry Editor and goto:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShell Folders
Set the Favorites path to : %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

Restart Internet Explorer. The Shell Folders value will update automatically and changes to C:\Documents and Settings\Don\Favorites. Now, you may want to copy the contents of and /Don/laptoptransfer/favorites to the actual Favorites folder.

Ramesh,
Thanks. I used your link to TweakUI since I am very leary of going into
registry. Worked like a charm. I am most grateful for the help I continue
to get from the MVPs.
