IE dropping connection to websites - but Outlook fine - Why?

Please help,

My Internet Explorer internet connection keeps dropping, but my actual
internet connection is fine. Why could this be?

In the last few days after using my wireless laptop for a few hours, I seem
to be unable to connect to any websites.
It just seems to happen all of a sudden and I have not identified what could
be triggering this.

The funny thing is, I am still able to collect my email though Outlook 2003.
Also I am able to use MSN as long as I stay logged in. If I log out and then
try again after the problem has occured this will not work. However, when
using IE6 (on XP Pro), whenever I click on a website, it just says "Website
found. Waiting for reply...", but the screen just remains white.

Evnetually I get the "page cannot be displayed" error.

My internet connection goes through a Netgear wireless router and the other
PC's on the network do not lose their connection. My wireless signal still
remains at full strength and I can see the other computers on the network.

Just in case though, whilst experiencing this problem, I disabled wireless
and hooked up the laptop directly to no avail. I had exacly the same result.

I do have Norton Internet Security 2002 installed on my system but I do not
see why this would be the problem.

Also when I go into MSDOS and do an IPConfig, all seems normal, however I
cannot ping any websites as I just get a time out.

The only solution is to reboot at present which is annoying as I have to
close down all my applications. At the time of the last occurance of this
error I was running Dreamweaver, and Microsofts clip art application.

What on earth is going on? Is this one of those strange problems that will
just fix itself when it wants to?

Any suggestions?

Kind regards

Dave.

Hi,
First try clearing the cache and limiting it's size to about 50-60 MB.
Deleting the TIF folder may help (and can't hurt.) See:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Or... This is possibly being caused by a third-party program (adware,
spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Less likely... but it's also possible that your winsock files are damaged.
Try the appropriate
(for your OS) winsock repair tool.

LSPFix- all versions of Windows http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip

Winsock2 Fix- Win98, ME
http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

From LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-

If all else fails, try disabling NIS and any other program that might be
interacting with IE. You may need to reinstall a program.

Hope this helps,
Don
