IE crashing

I don't know what has triggered this, but lately certain
websites cause IE to suddenly stop loading the page and
freeze up. After a minute or two it just closes itself.
The only thing that the websites have in common seems to
be Java applications, but I'm not sure on that. I would
like to remove IE and reinstall it, but I am having
trouble removing it. I am currently running Windows XP,
and if anyone can help I would appreciate it.
 
Check your settings for Script error handling in the Internet Options
control panel, on the Advanced tab. Make sure script debugging is disabled.

To run the Internet Explorer Repair option in Windows XP select the
Start=>Run menu option and copy and paste the following command, then press
OK

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
