IE Crashes on Graphics Download

In XP-SP1, our IE6 crashes when we click on any format graphic to download the file. We can "copy" an image, but any attempt to download the image file results in IE6 closing instantly. Occasionally we'll get a "Send to Microsoft" message referencing GDIPlus.dll.

We've scanned the computer for viruses, scanned with updated Adware, Spybot, updated the GDIplus file (from Microsoft's site), and run XP repair from our factory disk, all to no avail. Everything else works on the system, but we cannot download a graphic

Any help will really be appreciated.
