IE Crash

when i try to use ie6 to downlad a application (including
windows updates) it comes accross an error that it says is
caused by the appcompat.txt. i have even had this error
trying to visit the ie hompage. i tryed to do a system
restore but it said it was unable to do so. this has
become a big problem. any help would be great.
