IE Closing when Pop up Window comes up...

Howdy,

We have a web based "sharepoint" website where we store documents. (Word,
Excel, etc.) User is using IE 6, SP2. When the user clicks on the link to
open a document, a pop up window is supposed to come up asking "Some files
can harm your computer...etc." and you have to click OK or Cancel. Well, for
this user, before that even comes up, he gets the error, "IE has encountered
a problem and needs to close...etc." It then goes on to say, "If you were in
the middle of something, the information you were working on may be lost",
etc. When I click on "See what the error report contains", I get this -
"Error Signature - AppName: iexplore.exe, AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName
kernel32.dll, ModVer: 5.1.2600.2945 Offset: 00012a5b

It seemes to get the problem described here -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;923996, since the
user did have the KB918899 patch installed. So, ran those fixes (both 922760
and 923996), but it didn't fix the problem. So then, did a full Win Update
and that didn't work either. Then unchecked the "enable 3rd party browser
extensions" option in IE, which can cause the problem, but that didn't fix it
either. Installed and ran Adaware and Spybot and it found some spyware and
cleaned it, but that didn't help either. Tried reinstalling IE and that
didn't help either. Same issue occurs under my profile on his machine. Did
major research online for this error message (which led me to try the things
mentioned above), but can't find anything else to try! Seems to be a common
issue for IE6, SP1 but he is running IE SP2.

So - if anyone can help please! Thank you!

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
