IE Browser won't open

C

Claire

Everytime I click on the IE desktop icon or the IE quick
launch icon the browser will not open. I can only access
IE through windows explorer.

I'm running windows 98 SE and had a new hard drive fitted
a couple of days ago. The repairers reinstalled windows
and everything was running fine until last night.

IE was working ok before the pc was shut down, later when
I came to use it again this problem occurred. I've tried
reinstalling windows, I've run windows update and tried
system file checker to no avail.

Occassionally a browser window will open if I click on the
quick launch icon, but only whilst I am already accessing
IE through windows explorer.

It's driving me mad and I can't think of anything else to
try apart from reformatting the hard drive and starting
again from scratch.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Claire :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Restore IE Desktop Icon

Courtesy of Alan Edwards -

Desktop icon
Win9x:
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Advanced
Check "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"

For XP:
Control Panel-Display Properties-Desktop tab.
Customize Desktop

or....................

Courtesy of Robert Aldwinckle -

Use Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet.
Click on Add Components and put a checkmark beside
Internet Explorer. Note the Description under the list
when you have selected it...

Description: Adds or removes access to Internet Explorer
from the Start menu and Desktop

(You probably thought you were removing IE in the old Win9x sense
when you unchecked it. ;)

BTW if you are just after an icon you could probably create one
with right-click, New Shortcut, etc.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
