When I initiate Internet Explorer, a web
"www.allaboutsearching.com" takes over from my home page,
and spreads icons all over desktop. Performance slows
down, and I am unable to proceed. Attempts to solve the
problem have not been successful. I installed a anti-spy
program called spyhunter, which found and deleted over
1,000 parasites, but "www.allaboutsearching.com" still
prevails. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I suspect a bho, browser helper object.

You can use pest patrol, www.pestpatrol.com , to identify
the bho. Pest Patrol will charge you to remove the bho,
using their software but pest patrol will tell you how to
manually fix the problem.

The fix usually involves a lot of registry hacking. Be
sure you have backed up the registry.

Please post your version of Windows.

You may want to also download & install Spybot Search &
Destroy. You can download Spybot Wrom: K

62,00.asp

Here's a tutorial for using Spybot. http://www.safer-

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I have the same exact problem with allaboutsearching.com. I've tried
Ad Aware, SpyBot, HiJack This, CWShredder, and pest patrol. I've even
tried removing anything from the registry with allaboutsearhing.com.
Nothing is working. Have you found a solution to this problem yet?

Sarah,
allaboutsearching.com = C2Media\LOP (parasite)

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

Post back with the URL where you posted if you want help with your log.
