IE Behavior

Hello. I seem to be having some extrange IE behaviors. Upon boot up, I can
open IE and browse the internet. After a while, I am unable to use IE to
browse the internet. It would seem that there is not internet connection. I
can then open CMD and ping web sites. I thought it was an IE problem so I
downloaded Opera and firefox. Both of the programs experecience same
behavior. Use hijack tool, MS ANtispyware and other adware removal tools to
do scan and nothing came up. Running latest McAfee definition files and
latest OS patches for Windows XP SP2. Conducted full system scan with McAfee
and nothing came up. Looked at start up programs and there is nothing out of
the ordinary there. Any suggestions? By the way, I use Window Washer to
regularly clear my browser cache, etc. When the behavior accurs I am still
able to open Outlook and bring down email or use a FTP program to upload
files to my personal web site.

When the behavior occurs , I am not even able to access my router via the
normal 192.168.x.x web address. Again, pinging is not a problem. There is
internet connectivity. I could use my work laptop, and I am able to browse. I
have checked it with a laptop and my son's PC. All running same Win Xp SP2
with latest packages, etc. They do not experience the same behavior.

Your assiatnce is apperciated.

Does your McAfee contain a firewall ? if it does try disabling the firewall
so that you first eliminate that its not McAfee causing the problem.

I only iuse the McAffe antivirus software and not the firewall one. I am to
the point now that I have disabled McAfee and removed adware removal tools,
etc. and I am still experiencing the same behavior.

Do you have Windows Firewall enabled, you could check that in the control
panel and make sure thats not blocking any programs.

Let me know how you get on ?

Switch to a cmd window and enter

netsh winsock reset

BTW you are more likely to find help for this symptom on a newsgroup
which specializes in networking for your OS. Here's a troubleshooter
which contains a link to one for followup questions:

Hi Jaime,

I have posted and posted on this, as I am having the SAME problem. The
internet seems to shut down in IE, yet can successfully ping sites through
command window... all other network machines are visible and can be pinged.
However in my case, when this happens in IE, my Outlook can no longer "find
the server" and will not download email. All the other machines on our
network can connect fine, and it is just on this one machine. I have reset
my winsock, and it made NO difference. No firewall interference, and I have
run all the malware programs: Crap Cleaner, AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot and Ewido
for trojans. It is CLEAN.

I hope someone figures this out. A hard reboot usually clears it up.

Andy, what version of Java are you using? I have read of some problems
with the latest Java hanging and I am going to try UNinstalling the last
update....

Hi Robert,

I have removed the latest Java update 5_6, and have not had the problem in 3
days. I am still monitoring it to see if it occurs, but I had been reading
about problems with that update.
