IE Autocomplete clear feature not responding

Hi Paddy :)

You don't tell us what version of Windows you are using, so I will have to
make some guesses here and hope they may help:

Try the following and see if it helps:

Unable to delete AutoComplete entries
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1585442,00.asp

Unable to delete AutoComplete entries

When you are unable to delete the AutoComplete entries after selecting:
Clear Forms
Internet Options | Content [tab] | AutoComplete [button] | Clear Forms
[button]

Use the above method to delete the History folder as the AutoComplete
entries are actually stored in the hidden History\index.dat file. [more
info] (also applies to IE 6)

DelTypedURL [right-click and select: Save Target As]

Removes the URL's from the Address Bar drop-down list without deleting the
Internet Explorer History. To use: right-click and select: Install
Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete

Clear History of Typed URL's

Here is a forum thread on how to permanently disable the History. You might
check here to see if the Registry hack referenced here is what you are
looking for. Scroll down to this part

and here:
Disable History Function in IE6

and…

Under Use AutoComplete for, click to clear the Web Addresses check box, and
then click OK. Click the Advanced tab, click to clear the Use inline
AutoComplete check box in the Browsing section (if this check box has been
selected). Click OK

However, anything listed in Favorites (which by default includes pages saved
for
offline viewing) are not deleted when you clear History,

Hope this helps :)

Paddy,
Try starting your computer in Safe Mode w/Networking and then use the
Clear Forms button. I had the same problem
and this solved it for me.
