IE and Windows Help Crashing

For the last four weeks I have been experiencing a random problem with
Internet Explorer....nothing has been added to my XP system in the way of
hardware or software with the exception of Windows Updates.

Internet Explorer will close down for no apparent reason. The Application
Event Log shows the following.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16473, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x2d639c66.

When I click on: For more information, see Help and Support Center, the
Windows Help will not start. The application Event Log shows the following.

Faulting application helpctr.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x2d639c66.

I have checked the EventID.Net for Event ID 1000, but no one seems to have
had the same problem where one program seems to effect the other program.
When Internet Explorer is running fine, so is Help and Support.

Any input is welcomed. Thank you

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

I thank you for your input on my problem. Below is what I use on a regular
basis, and scans done by these programs report that my computer is clean. I
have no problems with popups or unwanted web pages. I use Blank for my home
page and have not installed any extra toolbars, i.e. yahoo or google, etc.

HighjackThis, CSshredder, RootkitRevealer, Spybot and Ad-Aware for scanning
purposes only, WinPatrol, ZoneAlarm, AVG

Computer and all other programs and run just fine. It's puzzling.

HijackThis is only a diagnostic tool. Getting a clean bill of health from
the others (especially AVG AV) or any other anti-spyware app does NOT
necessarily mean the machine is free of hijackware. This stuff is very well
written to hide itself and/or constantly morph to avoid detection.

Post your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum for review by a hijackware
expert.
