Running XP Pro SP2 with all updates installed. I have four issues that seem
to all be interrelated in some way.
1/ When typing an address into the Address Bar in IE6, the browser takes
20-30 seconds to respond. When selecting a Favorite or choosing a site from
the Address Bar drop-down list, clicking on a hyperlink, or typing in a site
using the Windows Start/Run dialog box, IE responds immediately.
2/ When opening an instance of My Computer, it takes 20-30 seconds for the
system inventory (drives, peripherals) in the right pane, and the folder list
in the left pane, to be displayed.
3/ In My Computer (or any folder, for that matter) when trying to display
pictures in the Filmstrip view, a 'Generating preview...' message is
displayed for 20-30 seconds before the picture preview will display. This
reoccurs whenever I attempt to view a new folder (for instance, different
subfolders under My Pictures).
4/ Camera and Scanner Wizard is no longer able to communicate with my
digital camera when it is plugged into a USB port. There is a known issue
with RealPlayer 10 (which I have), whereby when an associated
update/scheduling utility (realsched.exe) for the program runs in the
background, C&SW will not initiate when a device (camera, scanner) is
connected. Stopping realsched.exe process allows C&SW to run, but again,
there is a 20-30 second delay, after which I receive an error message saying,
'The computer cannot detect the camera or scanner....' This seems to be
because the Windows Image Acquisition service will not start properly (I
receive an error message saying, 'Error 1067. Process terminated
unexpectedly.').
These issues all seem to be related in some way, I believe. I am fanatical
about spyware and virus protection (NAV, Ad-Aware, SpyCatcher, CCleaner), and
so don't think that's the problem. MS Tech Support doesn't seem to have the
answer. Any suggestions? Thanks.
