IE 7 Automatic Update>> What Happened? Reset XP!!!

Windows Automatic Update downloaded IE 7 for instalation. I was running IE 7
Beta. My OS is XP Pro.
When instalation of IE 7 was supposedly complete, the computer restarted and
appears to have reset/re-installled XP Pro. My Documents folder is empty.
Outlook is empty. My Program files still exist, and the drive has 50 out of
60 gigs used- same as it did prior to IE 7 instalation.
I have tried multiple restore points and none of them have worked (error
message of 'can not restore to previous restore point' type message).
Desperate for some help. Unfortunately my back-up is corrupted.
I was running the most recent Norton Internet Security as well as Windows
Defender.

Thanks in advance

Wow, IE7 may very well overtake WGA as the bane to Windows. Try
uninstalling IE7 from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and see if your
situation isn't sorted out.

You should post your question in the IE7 newsgroup *after* you spend
some time reading through the posts there. The IE7 newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you
now. ;-)

In the meantime, here are some IE7 links to help you:

I should have mentioned that IE7 never actually was installed. I now only
have IE6 on the computer. IE7 Beta is gone, and IE7 was never installed.
