IE 6 Won't Open Windows Update page

While exploring for the cause of 'page error' problems
in IE6.0, I accidentally uninstalled update #Q831167 -- I
had hoped to find a "repair" option for IE6, not
uninstall anything.

I tried to access IE6's Tools|Windows Update function so
that I could reinstall Q831167. But the browser now only
gets as far as "http//windowsupdate.microsoft.com" URL,
then proclaims "done" and leaves me with an empty window.

I finally reinstalled Q31167 after finding another way to
get to microsoft's download web site and searching for
that update number. After the reinstallation, however, I
still cannot get to the Tools|Windows Update page.

I performed a system restore to a fews days ago, hoping
to clear everything up that way. That only resulted in
renaming of either the new or the old Q831167 "folder"
to "Q831167(2)." I still cannot use the IE 6.0's Windows
Update function.

I would be very grateful for suggestions about what I
should try next to recover access to that most useful web
page. Do I need to reinstall (and re-update) IE6? If
so, what is the procedure (e.g, do I need to uninstall
IE6.0 first? Do I use the System CD for the
reinstallation?)

Many thanks.

Found the root of the problem. The whole problem
resulted from, a 'protective' setting in my ad blocking
program. Once I removed that, I was again able to access
IE6.0's TOOLS:WINDOWS UPDATE function. That also
eliminated the 'page error' and 'script error' problems.
