IE 6 - web search

All of a sudden I cannot initiate a web search. It was
working ok earlier today. I type a word/phrase (whatever)
in the Search window but nothing happens. In the lower
left corner it says that it's connecting but the status
bar never reaches the 1/3rd mark before it re-sets. After
a couple of attempts, I get the window saying that 'this
page cannot be displayed'.

Anyone have any ideas??

I've run AVG Anti Virus, Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware,
HiJackThis (nothing reported in any of these programs).
PLUS, I also ran Internet Explorer "repair" process from
Add/Remove Programs in Control Bar.
 
Until yesterday everything was fine. Today, regardless of browser (IE or Firefox) the searches are not working at all
HELP...
 
Problem seems to have corrected itself (????). Can only
assume it must have been an internet type problem.
