When I try to look at the source code of a web page --I do this quite often
when I want to find out how certain feature is implemented-- by selecting
View/Source, nothing happens. I thought at first that the page at was
looking at might have locked this feature, but tried with several others and
I got the same result.

I looked through all the settings under Tools/Internet Options ..., but did
not find anything related to this.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Guillermo :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Can't View 'Source ' - Courtesy of Don Varnau:

First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content.) It's often recommended that the TIF
folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

If you have a shortcut to Notepad.exe on the desktop, rename it.

Some people have reported that Quick View Plus can cause this

or .........................

Restore Source View

Backup your registry before modifying

Search the registry (Start>run..type in "regedit" without the quotes>
press OK, The search for the DWORD "noviewsource".(without the quotes)

If that exists, delete it or set it to 0.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

YES. Clearing the cache did the trick. Just in case, I also looked for the
"noviewsource" DSTRING but it was not there.

Thanks so much ;-)

P.S. Does this happen because "view source" reads the file from the cache,
but cannot find it because it is cluttered?

You're very welcome! Glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem.
Good job!

Thank you for posting back and letting us know what worked for you, and for

Pretty much so. When the cache reaches the allowed limit of the set space
allocated, it can start to get flakey. It is always a good idea to clean it
out now and then. It can also affect the performance of other functions,
like saving files, or accessing some files on the Internet.

Here is a bit of information that might help explain how the Cache works and
how it can affect the performance of your system:
