When all else fails, HijackThis

use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.

ira, *did you clear the Temporary Internet Files?* Did you clear the IE
cache?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157729/en-us
"How to clear the History entries in Internet Explorer".
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897/en-us
"How to Delete the Contents of the Temporary Internet Files Folder".

Try also...
CCleaner (freeware), from http://www.ccleaner.com/
About CCleaner, courtesy of Sandi Hardmeier - Microsoft MVP: "Be very very
VERY careful with CCleaner. We are seeing a lot of problems with that
software removing hotfix data making it impossible to uninstall IE7 and any
other hotfix/update."

And Free History Eraser:
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm

Try to re-register the DLL files that are related to Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902932/en-us
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
"How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP".
You will need to uninstall WinXP SP2 from Control Panel -> Add/Remove
Programs and then reinstall Service Pack 2.
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/875350
"How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer".

If still no joy, please follow Robear Dyer's advises.
