I have a problem in that when I attempt to open a 2nd IE session the first
session automatially closes down. I notice that the CPU uses shoots up to
100% before it closes down. Any ideas on what to do ?

Silj. Thanks for your reply. Willacton the advice that you have given.

Having read through other similar incidents and picked up some advice from a
IJ - I have had a breakthrough. I unchecked the "Enable 3rd party browser
extentions - restarted my pc and yippee..I could now open more than 1 IE
session and my CPU was back to normal levels.

Does this give you any ideas on what the fault could be ?

Anyway I will publish my logs to see wha the root cause of the problm has
been.

Carl :)

Good to know, thank you.

Enabling third-party Browser extentions should be on by default.

Not until you post a Hijack log at one of the expert forums posted.
Anyway I will publish my logs to see wha the root cause of the problm has

Be sure to post back the URL *here* were you have posted your log once done.

Good luck!

siljaline has the right idea. You may not need to kill your 3'rd party
extensions though:

This 100% CPU usage is a real problem, and it occurs 100% of the time on
certain sites, but only while Messenger (beta 8 installed here) is running.

I found a solution
that would apply to vast number of people reporting this problem.

The real problem stems from MSN Toolbar. (You can disallow 3'rd party
extensions, and that would kill MSN Toolbar.)

REMOVE MSN TOOLBAR - USE WINDOWS LIVE TOOLBAR:
Since the MSN Toolbar has some good features, replace it with the new
Windows Live Beta Toolbar. I bet that if you were using the MSN Toolbar, and
if you switch to the Windows Live Beta Toolbar, your problem of 100% CPU
usage will disappear, and you will also find that the Live Toolbar is just as
good.

Hi Carl,

The MSN Toolbar appears as an extra (1 or 2) narrow toolbars below the usual
Windows toolbar. Also, you can check in Add/Remove Programs (via the Control
Panel) - the MSN Toolbar will appear there.

If you don't have the MSN Toolbar, then take Siljaline's advice and turn off
3rd party browser extensions.

Carl, for a more verbose description of this problem, please follow the
following link to my MSN Spaces address, and read the article:
Solution to CPU 100% USAGE, Runaway Problem
http://spaces.msn.com/elvidge

I added the note because I am sure that a lot of people are experiencing
this very same, irritating, and unsafe problem.

UPDATE:

Please see my updated notes about the 100% CPU problem at this safe link:
http://spaces.msn.com/elvidge/blog/cns!D5DE188EEC9DF556!488.entry

I have subsequently upgraded to IE7 beta. It works well, and most of the
features you'd want from MSN Toolbar or Windows Live Toolbar are already
built-in, so you don't need them.

Note that the MSN Toolbar fault is recognized a problem for IE7 (see
installation notes).

Get rid of all your toolbars, and upgrade to IE7!
