Sounds like your HOSTS file?
You can use a simple batch file to rename the HOSTS file "on-the-fly".

Are you using a Firewall or "filtering software"?
Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off
2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.
4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.
Symptom: Page cannot be displayed / Cannot find server or DNS Error
In the event you can not access a site or missing graphics and
you believe it may be due to an entry in the HOSTS file.

I'm getting the exact same thing,,,,only mine is happening with any page
on yahoo,,I also notice I-frame banner ads do not load either,,,and have a
page not found in the background as a default. This is really annoying.
Also same thing happens on
www.cnet.com no images load. Sometimes a jpeg
will show up,,but all .gif files don't show. I'm on DSL, all my internet
settings are default, I've installed IE service pack over and over, cleared
my cache,,talked on tech support with someone until 4:30 am the other
day,,and it still happens,,WTF is goin on here microsoft? And yeah,,,it
alwasy says,,,1 item remaining,,and it never loads,,then I get a page error.
I tried doing some research on this,,and the best I could come up with is
that images that don't load were created with photoshop 7.0 on a MAC with OS
10. Doesn't seem right to me though.
