This has been puzzling me because I have two machines with the same version
of the operating system (Win XP Pro SP2) and the same version of IE (6) and
the same version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.01). I can open .pdf files in
Internet Explorer on one machine but not the other. The problem has existed
now on only one of the machines for about 4 months. I have been using the
work around (right-click on the link and save to my machine then open it from
windows explorer with a double click). Obviously since the work around
works, I can see the files, and since the double-click works, the Open File
With is set to Adobe Acrobat as it should be. But on my other machine,
clicking on a link to a .pdf works as it always has and loads Acrobat Reader
into IE without a problem.
I've already read "Q305153 - Internet Explorer Opens a Blank Page with a
Placeholder Icon Instead of a .pdf File in Adobe Acrobat Reader" which places
the blame on the server, but if that were the case, it would fail to work on
both machines.
Anyone have an idea as to what I need to change/repair on my machine to get
it back to opening .pdf files in IE?
