IE 6 Address entry or "Go" takes 2 minutes

Fairly new computer. Did a Windows update and installed a
few other programs. Now, with IE, if I put a URL in the
address bar and either hit Enter or click the "Go"
button, it takes about 2 minutes for the site to come up.
If I choose a site from Favorites or click links within a
web page, the page appears immediately.

I tried to reinstall IE 6 but I get a "Windows logo not
tested" error and have been through the Knowledge Base
and don't have the Hotfix installed it has listed in it.

Any ideas?

Thx.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
