Since everything worked until a few days ago, what changed a few days
ago? This normally wouldn't have anything to do with Internet Explorer,
certainly nothing that would require a reinstallation.

If you can't think of anything you changed, then try doing a System
Restore to a date when everything worked.

I did a system restore as you sugjested but i still have that problem. I did
install McAfee firewall, but I since removed it but still the same problem. I
tried all the tricks that i know but it will not go to stdby unless i do it
manually.

Do you have a wireless mouse and/or keyboard? Those devices will
regularly poll the computer, preventing standby. Did you update the
network drivers from Windows Update? Update any other software? Perhaps
you have something running in the background such as a screensaver.

Unfortunately, since I can't see your machine I can't guess why it won't
go into standby any more. Is this a laptop? If so, try reinstalling the
laptop mftr.'s power management software. I personally never use
standby so don't have any first-hand suggestions, but here are some
links that may help:

Thanks for your feedback, I reinstalled my monitor driver and that seemed to
fix the problem, as of now it seem to be working, (Desktop Sony)
Thanks for your help.
Have a great day
