IE 6.0 Save picture as ... default ? always .BMP untitled

For some reason, about a week after using my new computer, which is a WIN XP
OS, my MS I.E. version 6.0.2800.1106, will not save graphic files from
websites as their original format and filename when I right click them.

Instead, when I right click a picture and scroll to "Save Picture as" the
save picture dialog box that comes up automatically sets the file as a .BMP
file and the filename is always "untitled" now sometimes I can go back to a
thumbnail or something and click "save target as" and the file will download
in it's original format and file name, but I don't always have that option
and besides, I just want my browser to work as it should when I right click
a jpeg file, I want it to download as a jpg.

I appreciate any advice and comments

This is almost always cured by clearing the IE cache.
From IE> Tools> Options> General> Delete Files & Delete offline content. You
might also set the TIF folder size to about 50MB. Bigger isn't necessarily
better.
