I get an error message syaing: "Run time error: Microsoft
Visual Basic has requested this programme be terminated in
an unusual way" or something worded very similarly to that.

Could a virus be causing this? I ask this as the option to
send an error report does not appear and this keeps
happening every time I use IE.

I have run a virus scan with updated deficintions and it is
not picking up anything.

What can I do to solve the problem please?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
