I need help. Every time I try and download the 'critical
updates' for IE 6.0 for my Windows XP home edition, my
Internet Explorer won't even open afterwards. It doesn't
even respond when clicked on. I have already contacted
my computer manufacturer about this, and both times they
just had me do a System Restore. It worked fine, until I
downloaded Spybot(which they highly recommended, since
they are sure I have spyware on my PC), but after I used
it, I wasn't able to open up Internet Explorer. I'm at
my wit's end here, wondering what is wrong with my
computer and whether I am going to have to keep doing
system restores just to be able to get into IE. Can
someone please give me a viable solution to my problem????

Inside IE, look at the "Tools"->"Internet Options"-
"Connections".

See if all the connections make sense. Also, check the
LAN settings. A proxy server may have been installed as
one of the SpyWare routines...

HTH

have you done the usual like scan for virus's free
antivirus at grisoft.com and did you update spybot after
download and used "easy" mode. and in ie tools options
advanced uncheck 'enable third party browser extensions'
,apply. and see if any change and then reenable after. also
in ie tools options advanced uncheck both 'enable
install on demand',apply.
and then do a search at microsoft.com for "browser will not
open after windowsupdate"

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
