Internet Explorer does not recognize when a dialup connection is not present. I can set it to always dial a connection. but the
setting for dial when a connection is not present does not work like it once did.
I have recently installed and uninstalled software from Earthlink and PeoplePC. This software may have made a change to my
registry, but I don't know where. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have another dial up connection set as the default connection.

In Internet Explorer...Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections >> Ensure that only one connection is there and remove any others >> Select >> Always dial my default connection.

Adam - Earthlink Customer Support had the answer. In IE6 tools/internet options / connections LAN Settings - Uncheck "Use Proxy
Server."

Who would have guessed?
