Identity Switch Cancelled

Outlook 2003 Windows XP SP2
I have a customer that is getting the following error when starting Outlook:
Title of the window is "Identity Switch Cancelled" the message reads as
follows:
"The current identity could not be changed because one of the applications
was unable to switch. Close any open dialog boxes in other applications
before trying again."
The only option on this window is to click OK. When he does so Outlook
appears to open and function normally. How does one get rid of this message
when starting Outlook?

Jennifer,

Outlook Express uses Identities not Outlook. If actually receiving this
error in Outlook then was Outlook Express ever removed or attempted to be
removed at any point?

Hi Francine
This customer swears he has not tried to remove or even use Outlook Express
ever on this computer.

Any ideas how to get this message to stop appearing?

This isn't native functionality of Outlook. What add-ins are installed?

Chapura Settings
Delegate Access
Deleted Items Recovery
Exchange Extensions commands
Exchange Extensions property pages
Fax Server Extension

Jennifer,

Has OE had any changes made to it or been removed?

Ask the user to disable them all and see if it still happens. If so try
starting Outlook in Safe Mode;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

If it doesn't happen enable them one by one to find the culprit.

Just so anyone knows for the future...
The problem was with a missing Identities key - User ID - in the registry
under HKEY_CURRENT_USER

that my error message at start of program reads" Another application has the
switch identities or identity login dialog showing" I beleive this below is
my fix however do not know how to implement it. All help would be

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003/2007 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...px?dg=microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
Good luck!
