ICS Autodials When Client Boots

R

Rick

This issue may have been addressed many times in this
forum, but I can't find any prior postings.

I have XP Pro on both the host & client computers. Both
computers have SP1 installed. ICS works well, but every
time I boot the client (laptop), the host autodials my
ISP.

If I disconnect from the ISP from the client, the host
will autodial and re-establish the modem connection.

Since I don't require an internet connection every time I
boot up the laptop, is there any method of disabling auto
connect? It took some time to actually get ICS working,
so I don't want to do anything that will cause problems
with the program.

Thanks.

I think I solved the problem! I had the host setup to
autodial whenever a network connection was not present.
Changing to never dial a connection seems to have solved
the issue of the host automatically redialing when I
disconnect from the client computer. I assume this will
also deal with the host autodialing when the client boots.

The only way I found around this is to use a proxy server for dialling. Do
you dial manually from the host computer?

If I understand the problem correctly, you might also go to the Advanced tab
in the properties for the modem being shared to make sure "Establish a
connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the
internet" isn't checked.

This is the option I unticked - what was the other option that should be
unticked - I haven't used anything else unxer XP.
