Icon't change it!!!

Please someone out there help me with this simple task, I can seem to remove
the background from my desk top icons. Please help!
 
Go to PERFORMANCE settings - visual - enable 'drop shadows' option
 
Mike. You forgot to tell him how to get to PERFORMANCE.

TeatleBeatle. Right mouse click on MY COMPUTER
Then choose properties, then the ADVANCED tab
There you will find a Performance section with a Settings button.
 
Hi there, thank you for the information, however after following instructions
there is still a background behind my icons... Is this due to an XP system
error now?
