icons won,t open on desktop

I am running ie7 and since i have it ,any createshort cut icon i place on
desktop, I can not open when double clicked..no problem when i had ie 6.am
running xp.the icons placed on the desk top contain the urls which they
didn,t before.. any ideas why..thanks

Hi,
Are these Internet Shortcuts- shortcuts to webpages?

Go to Control panel> Add or remove programs> Set Program Access and
Defaults, choose Microsoft Windows or Custom. Make sure IE is selected as
the default browser.

Then try creating a shortcut by visiting a website, making the IE window
smaller than the desktop and dragging the IE icon at the left end of the
Address Bar to the desktop. Does that shortcut work?
