Icons not changing

I recently installed a paticular program that uses *.ics
files, which also happen to be iCalender files in MS
office. Even when i associate the *.ics files with the
new program and change their icons, they old icons remain
the same. Even under Folder Options>File Types the
correct new icon shows there, but everywhere in windows
its showing the iCalender icons. Whats the problem here?

To refresh the icons in the system change the size of icons in Start - Control Panel - Display - Appearance, click apply then change the size back.

refreshing them didnt work, they merely changed size like
the others. In the properties dialogue box, it shows the
correct icon, but not in explorer.

How did you change it. What does the dialog say exactly (as it doesn't exist on standard computers)

I used the tools menu folder options, and went to file
types and manually associated all *.ics files with
IronCAD.exe. They now open with the program, and when
looking at file properties show an ironcad icon, but in
any explorer window they still display the iCalender
icons.

Export these keys from the registry and post here.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ics

And make a note of the default value

then
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<whatever the default value above is>

Also

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.ics

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<whatever the default value from first line is>
