Icons not apearing after login

Hi folks

I have had a problem with Logging on for some time and can not find a
solution.

After logging in to Win 2K I get the my desktop and taskbar and the start-up
programs load ok but there are no desktop icons. I normally have to wait
anything up to ten minutes and then they will appear themselves and
everything works fine. If I try to open any windows or programs before the
icons appear, everything freezes and locks up.

Can anyone suggest any probable causes ?

No, it only happens as administrator.

Your profile is corrupted. Do this:

- Log on under your alternative admin account. If you
haven't got one then you live dangerously. Sooner or
later you will lock yourself out of the machine, because
of a forgotten or damaged password.
- Rename the administrator's profile folder (It's in
c:\Documents and Settings)
- Log on under your normal account. A new profile folder
will be created for you.
- Copy your icons back into your current profile folder.

OK Tried that. On the new profile the icons come up straight away but I am
still not able to run any programs for over 5 mins.

I have also noticed this problem only happens when computer is restarted and
not when just logged off and then on again.

So it seems to affect all profiles after all. Sorry.

Any other ideas.
