Icons in System Tray

Does anyone know how XP Home decides what icons to put in the system
tray? At the moment I have nine, but at other times I only have 3 or 4
.... I have not installed/ uninstalled anything.

under taskbar properties there is an option to hide tray icons that are
inactive. If you have this box checked that would account for why you
have a varying number of icons at any given time.

To LostNavigator: Red 5's answer above is probably correct, but if that's
not why, post back with details of which ones are always there and which
ones are there only soimetimes.

Hi Red 5,

This has got nothing to do with the problem. A Print Screen of the
problem saids it all. I attached small Print Screens of the Notification
Area, which I just posted to this group under:
Miissing Startup Icons in Notification Area

The operating system is Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. - 2
GBits of RAM and my processor speed is 2.93 GHz.
