I have noticed on my office computer the websites I have put in the Links
section of my browser are unique to the website. But on my home PC, which
is also XP pro, I just get the standard blue e for explorer. Is there a
setting on my home machine that needs attention.

Try going to the Tools menu, select Internet Options. Under the
General tab, go down to the Temporary Intenet Files section and click
the Settings tab to increase the amount of disk space that IE can use
for a cache.

Thanks Dan. I always keep that setting low but didn't know it was keeping
the icons from showing.

These are called "favicons" and are downloaded to your Temporary Internet
Files folder. When you empty the folders, the icons are removed and the
shortcut reverts to the standard blue e icon.

On your home machine, you may be using the "clear temporary files on exit"
setting of IE or perhaps you're using a privacy or maintenance program that
clears the TIF folder periodically.

The files will eventually be moved out of the TIF folders to make room for
new files. You can visit the site again to get a new copy of the favicon or
you can take measures to save the files.

There are third party programs that allow you to "capture" the favicon
files from the TIF folder and assign them to specific internet shortcuts
permanently.

Or you could extract the files yourself. Move them to a folder. Rename
them. Suggest using names to remind you which icon goes with which site.
Then in your Favorites folder, right click on the corresponding shortcut.
Select Properties. Click the Change Icon button and select the favicon file
that you saved for the site.

Hi Alan,

These are generally known as favicons.ico (Favorite Icons) and they normally
will only last until your Internet Explorer Temp files are cleared.

This program will allow you to save the favicons.ico (Favorite Icons)
permanently in a different folder and re-associate your favorites with the
stored icons.
