Known as a "favicon"...........
When you empty the Temporary Internet Files
folder the "favicon" is cleared (see below). If your
TIF size is
small (1-5mb) then over time the favicon will
be kicked out in favor of new one(s).
Favicons are not a Microsoft created device.

FAVORG or FAVICONIZER
These will save the icons in a different folder and fixes
your favorites
with the favicon icons.
