icons gone bad

I've tried using tweakui to repair my icons, and favorg to add the icons from website's to my favorites links. But the icons are all the generic blank icons you get with a dos file.
I've repaired them many times, but this time, tweakui shows the icons reverting to the explorer icon [wanted], and when the repair is done, it reverts ALL of them back to the dos icon.

Any ideas on how to repair the icons ?

While I'm here Nero 7 is dropping a debug.txt file in a folder every timeI fire it up, and I can't turn it off. Haven't found the toggle that's creating the file.

Wrote Nero, got a generic reply back.

May be easier to use the above fix, from Ramesh's site..

Icons get corrupted after using Tweak UI "Rebuild Icons" function
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairicons.htm

Both ideas good, but here's a 3rd.
Reason I ran favicon was to change the icons in the favorites folder to the unique ones. They were all either generic exe or com icons or the explorer icon.
After running favicon, nothing happened. Icons remained the same. A few generics picked up uniques.
But the favicon run came back abnormal.

Ran favicon 3 more times. Nada Zip etc..
ran Tweakui. Saw it change all the COM icons to explorer icons [a start].
then Tweakui finished the repair and the icons sprang back to what they were b4 running Tweakui [IOW back to square 1].

Tried reinstalling and running favicon to the system drive and ran it.
Icons fixed now.

They were deleted when you emptied your Temporary Internet Files folder.

Read about it here...

but FavOrg preserves them.]]

Direct download of favorg.zip
http://www.gratilog.net/anglais/internet/favorg.zip

These Icons are stored in >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
or
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

The contents of these files get deleted. Icons revert back to the generic
ugly IE e.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Settings button | View Files
button | Scroll down to whatever *.ico files you want to keep | Left click
favicon.ico | Drag to Desktop | Rename to whatever | Store in a folder such
as >> C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\My Documents\ICONS

Open Favorites | Right click whatever item | Properties | Change Icon |
button | Browse button | Click: My Documents or wherever *.ico are stored |
Click whatever *.ico | Open button | Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK
Repeat as necessary.

If you move any *.ico files after customizing your shortcut/favorite, the
icon will revert back to the blue e

I used to see favicons, but now they've all disappeared. What happened?

Favicons are cached similarly to html documents. When they are deleted from
the cache, they revert to the standard IE icon. If you want to prevent the
icon from disappearing:

1. Create a local directory (e.g., c:\favicons)
2. Copy the desired favicon into the directory created above.
3. Right click the mouse over the favorite/bookmark and select properties.
4. Enter the path (or use the 'browse' feature) to the favicon you want for
that bookmark.

Another temporary solution is to hold down the mouse button while holding
shift over the default IE icon in the address bar and then let go of the
mouse button anywhere in the address bar. This seems to 'update' the
favicon.

I have the FREE NO ADS, nothing but do the job favorg before it became private property of pcmag.
Reinstalling it and running it brought all the icons back to unique.
