Icons don't change after new file association

B

Brian

Hi

I wonder if someone can throw some light on an XP irritant. I've discovered
that when I associate a file type with a new programme the old icon remains.
For example I changed all my jpg files to open with Photoshop instead of
Paint shop Pro. This all works fine but the file icon still remains as a
Paintshop Pro icon in the folder list. Strange thing is that in File
Options/File Types, the Photoshop icon is displayed correctly. Does anybody
know of a remedy? Earlier versions of Windows allowed you to change icons;
has this disappeared in XP or is it hidden somewhere?

Hi Brian,

See if resetting the iconcache helps:

I'm in the same boat as Brian here.. my old icons stay even after I install
new software that asscoiates with the file types (even after uninstalling the
old apps).

.... and Ramesh's post doesn't help at all. I don't want to edit the
registry for such a simple problem. Anyone have an easy answer for this?

I mean there has to be one, right?

No, I did not advice any registry editing method. Better explain your problem in detail (which filetypes are affected, what else you've tried), rather than just replying to an old thread.

If situation demands, there is no other option than editing the registry.
