Icons do nothing

This is a laptop running XP Pro. No desktop icons or
command items in the start menu will launch anything
(mydocs, IE, control panel, etc). In safe mode everything
works fine. I have removed everything from the start up
menu, ran a virus scan in safe mode with system restore
disabled, and scanned for spyware with three different
utilities. Still, at normal start up the system will not
respond. This is consistant regardless of the user profile
I login as also, even administrator on the local machine.

HELP Please!

Open Registry Editor, export the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

Post the REG export contents here.

Open Task Manager and see if you have a process 'rundll32.exe', and terminate it.

If none of the shortcuts work - including shortcuts to other applications, try LNK fix from MVP Doug Knox's site:

Make sure your office-mates aren't playing a joke on you. We did this
to a co-worker who left his terminal wide open when he left (which
violated so many LAN security rules):

We copied his entire desktop by hitting print-screen. We then used
this image and made it his new wallpaper, and deleted all his icons.
Now he had an exact image of his original desktop, but none of the
icons would work since they were not really icons.

He was more than a little miffed about this, but he never left his
desk without locking his workstation ever again.

Two are known spyware (out of the three BHOs). Run Ad-Aware. Or get Toolbarcop from here, disable the BHOs one by one to know which is causing this: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm. Ad-Aware can be downloaded from www.lavasoftusa.com
