No Icons

My XP Pro machine does not show any icons on the desktop, I cannot get to the
start run command, nothing. I tried to boot into safe mode samething.

I would like to look at the startup files to see what might be loading. And
would like to run some anti spyware to see what might be going on.

Looking for ideas, thanks

Since I cannot get to any ICON or RUN command from normal or safe mode. Can
these scripts (that you suggested) be run from the command line in DOS or
repair console?

It probably isn't an issue with the Tasbar, per se. Since you can't perform
any commands in Windows, this sounds like a severe malware infection. You
can boot with a Bart's PE or other rescue system and look at Startup files,
run scans for malware, etc.
