a large protion of my program files, ie: word, excel,
norton etc... now have an lnk extention and will not
execture. Please advise.

Those .lnk files are shortcuts to the program. Apparently the file type association has become changed somehow. To restore the correct settings, go to this web page, http://www.xs4all.nl/~laar2002/tweak/file-association-fixes.html, and download the file to fix LNK file type. Unzip the download and double-click the .reg file to import the correct settings to the Windows Registry.

Hi Steve,

In addition to Bill's great advice: The first edit (run the undo) will
remove super hidden file extensions as in .lnk and the second will repair
exe and lnk extensions.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
