LNK FILES PROBLEM

S

saft

-All the icons on my "Start menu" and "All Programs" menus have changed .
The files are now with a .LNK extension , I cannot open them and
consequently the access to all programs is denied .

-This problem began when I received attachments in my e-mail (pictures) :
"shortcut to DSC00092.LNK" and another with ".PPS file type, that I could
not open.

-Using "Folder options" in Control Panel I created a .LNK file and a .PPS
file.
Nothing worked since and I have the problem mentioned above.

-I have Windows XP-HE, SP2, NAV 2006,Windows Defender (beta).
-I have checked Microsoft newsgroups posts but I could not find any
suggestions.

Any valuable help would be very appreciated

All shortcuts have the .lnk extension. That's what a shortcut is.

Are there any specific instructions or warnings that I should be aware of
Nope. The link contains the file association fixes for Windows XP. Simply
download the .lnk file association fix, unzip it, and double-click the REG
file. It just fixes the file association for shortcuts (.lnk files), which
inturn should fix the problem you stated.

Alan,
All my files and programs have a .lnk extension after downloading an
update from Lavasoft for Ad-Aware. Are there any specific instructions or
warnings that I should be aware of before going to
www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm?
