icon stays on

HI
was wondering if anyone could help. i am on a dialup connection. when i log on to the internet the icon at the bottom right hand of the screen stays on all the time now. it us to go on and off depeanding on what i was doing. now stays on all the time. the network utilization goes up to 100 persent even when i am not doing anything.hope i am explaning myself. any help would be appr.

Check for virus..

It can also be some parasites... Check it out.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
