after i start the computer and icons appear, i receive a message the the DCOM
Server process Launcher is shutting down in 59 seconds due to the NT

hibernation. I can't get it to stay on.

Blaster worm ?

Do you keep your operating system up to date with service packs and
security updates ? I expect this one has been patched before.

Some more info here.

Another example here.

http://www.upenn.edu/computing/virus/03/w32.blaster.worm.html

If your computer is up to date with WindowsUpdate for Service Packs
and security updates, it still may be a malware related issue. If
you just installed using an old WinXP installer CD, then that might
explain why you were vulnerable. That, and connecting directly
to the Internet while the machine is unpatched.

When you know there is an exploit like that around, it is best
to have, not only your Windows Installer CD, but also any
Service Packs downloaded, that prevent it. That way, you can remain
disconnected from the Internet, until the system is fully
armored, then connect to the Internet, visit Windows Update,
and finish applying all Security Patches.

For example, the English version of SP2 is here for download.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en

And SP3 is here.

Good luck,

Most NT Autthority/System caused shutdown can be caused by a virus.
The older MS-Blaster virus would also show this style of message /
symptoms.

Never "surf" without protections. Anti-virus software is a "MUST" and
not an option now.

Only if you're running Windows.

Rootkits first came out in the early 90's on Linux/UNIX systems. Windows
didn't see these until over 10 years later. I bet you there are zillions
of Linux/UNIX systems that are compromised and they don't even know it.
