Icon removal from the taskbar

I am new to Vista and would like to get rid of the 'Safely Remove Hardware'
icon from the taskbar where it stays all the time. It should only pop up when
I use a new or temporary device. Thanks for any help.

Easiest thing to do is 'hide' it. See this link from my website:

If you have a card reader installed in you computer, that would explain why
it is always showing. Just hide it as John said.

TTBOMK, any USB device will hold the Icon in place for safe removal purposes.
