icon problems

Hi,

I installed Edit Pad Lite, a great little text editor and somehow it
created an association with lots of files instead of just text files.

I have many files that are now showing the EditPad icon next to the file
when viewed in Windows Explorer.

I know that I can change an icon with shortcuts as the option to do that
is there but there is no such option on these other files.

Does anyone know how I can simply remove the editPad icon?

Thanks, Fred

No matter how "great" that tool might be, changing file associations
without user confirmation is worst practice being performed by poor
software only.

See if that great little text editor has an option to untick particular
file type file associations. If this is not the case, use the Explorer's
context menu (open with...).

That icon is just cosmetics compared with the fact, that the file type
*associations* have been changed.

Detlev,

Thanks for your reply.

I have to admit that I may have contributed to the problem as there was
an option to associate files with Edit Pad and I may have selected the
wrong one carelessly. It does give you the option to associate text
files, html files, and "any files." The last one lets you add the
desired extensions.

I'm not sure how it happened but it did. I checked the "any files"
option and hit the remove association button but that did not work for
some files, hence my question.

I used Add/Remove and uninstalled the program, then re-installed it and
now it appears to be working properly. I set it to associate with text
and log files and that seems just fine.

By the way, when I tried using, file associations from Windows Explorer,
that did not work which is why I uninstalled/reinstalled.

Anyway, thanks again, the program is working and icons are where they
are supposed to be.

Glad to hear, Fred. You're very welcome and thanks for your detailed
feedback.
