Icon problem in Windows Explorer

Hello,

I recently reloaded my computer from scratch and this
required a reinstallation of Windows XP Professional. This
isn't the first time I have done this process, but it is
the first time I have experienced this problem.
The problem is when I open up windows explorer all the
icons that are on the left hand window (folder views) are
not there. The only thing there is the text of the item.
This also occurs when I go into a program and click OPEN
and the open file dialog comes up. HOW DO I FIX THIS?? I
have heard there is a fix but not sure when to find it.

The Folders Bar in Windows Explorer Does Not Contain Any Icons

Adaptation for the Article: Needs to be a path not a drive letter, so subst
c: [x]:\. Note backslash converts a drive letter to a path. It must point
to a valid folder as in: c: d:\Windows
