"Icon" missing

K. Stonefield

Hello! I don't know what kind of issue this is (it happens in both IE and
Firefox) so I'm putting it in here.

Sometimes there are icons that are missing and replaced with a rectangle
(IE) or a rectangle with number in it (e.g., 27 in 1st row, 06 in 2nd row)
(Firefox).

When I used someone else's computer and looked at the same page, one example
of one of those icons was supposed to be a clock (in Gmail).

What does this rectangle symbol mean and how do I get the actual icon to
show up? Thanks!

I'm guessing here ... after seeing more of these symbols, are they fonts that
I don't have? For example, foreign characters?

Thanks,
K.

Okay, I did more research and found this:

http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2706/index.htm

It's the Unicode Character that I'm missing.  U+2706.

Let's pick one browser or the other to start. Ohhhh, how about
Internet Explorer 7ish.

Did this used to work properly for you with both browsers and then one
day you notice this problem?

Copy and paste a link to a page you try that does not work on your
computer, but works on your friends computer.

On the page link, describe as best you can in words, what does not
display properly on your computer (the more examples the better) and
what works okay on your other computer. Say something like, "here I
see a strange box with numbers, but on my friends computer this area
of the page looks like this".

Using IE, look under Tools, Internet Options, Fonts. There are 3 drop
down choice boxes. What is in them (do not change them). My IE works
okay and from the top says Latin based, Times New Roman, Courier New.
If yours are different, note what you have and change it like mine and
try again restarting IE in between. If it gets worse, change it back
for now.

If you have the same or similar problem in Firefox, send the
troublesome link and again describe as best you can what you see
improperly and what it should be.

I don't use gmail and don't know my way around but I set up an account
and it all looks fine to me with IE, so try to find some page(s) that
anyone can look at...

Or is it only gmail pages that are troublesome? If so, where in gmail?
