How do I make the little icons appear in Windows Explorer? I associated
files with Wordpad, Notepad, etc. MS Office associated it's own files.
Those all show associated files with the appropriate icons. I downloaded a
free text editor called Context, which has an icon associated with it. I
associated a file extension to use this program. Nothing in Windows
Explorer shows the icon for the file extension I associated. I recently
reformatted my PC, and I did reinstall the text editor. I'm sure these
files used to show the icon.

In a open folder select Tools, Folder Options, Filetypes, scroll to the
extention in question, select advanced, then change Icon, Browse to the
EXE file and snag it's icon.

The problem was, it didn't have an Advanced button. It had some message
about "you have customized this extension"? All I had done was to select
the extension in the Context editor under it's association options. I tried
associating a different extension from this editor and it looked fine. Then
I went back in and selected to "change" this "customized" extension. Then
the Advanced button appeared but it had disappeared from the associations
listed in the editor. Then I added it back in to the editor's associations
and now it looks fine. I'm not sure how the File Types list was showing it
as "customized".
