Icon for Volume control disappeared from the tray!

Hi there!
After a reboot the icon for the Volume control (sndvol32.exe) has
disappeared from the tray! I can find no way to restore it! Please help!
I've already tried to:
- double-check the option on the Sound card config panel to make the
icon appear,
- reinstall sound card driver (also tried a new version),
- do a complete (off- and on-line) scan against viruses, malwares, etc.
.... but nothing changed!

The Sound card seems working fine and I can manage volumes by launching
sndvol32.exe manually, but it should appear automatically on the tray!!!

Can anybody please give me a help??

Here are several fixes for this behavior:

Volume Control Icon Disappears from the Notification Area:

Go to the following website, read the information at the top of the page and then download the specified files. Double click the files to run.

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54, right side)

I have the same problem, I tried the fixes and it did not help. The sound
works from itunes and anything that plays through directsound, however the
windows sounds and the click from ie are all gone. In fact in the sound
confuration page, the play icon is ghosted out. I first noticed that I could
not muta or adjust the sound volume using my volume control keys on my
bluetooth microsoft keyboard, during the same time the sound icon dissapeared
from the tray. Any Ides on how to fix this.

The only things I can suggest is to try a System Restore back to a time before you noticed the problem with the sound.

Check all of the settings, under the tabs, in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices.

Go through the troubleshooter in the Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers/<your soundcard>/Properties. There may be a problem there.

Check for an updated driver for the sound card or reinstall the current driver.

Also, go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and check for any recent X error messages associated with the sound.
 
Thanks for the help, but none of these solutions worked!
I think I'm gonna unistall the sound card one more time... Can you tell
me please how can I remove any driver, settings and/or information about
my sound card that Windows cached somewhere on the HD and/or registry? I
just want my PC to be a tabula rasa, then install the sound card once
again... I hope this may finally help!

for me, the solution mentioned by kelly in "Troubleshooting the Volume
Control Icon" was probably similar to what solved it when I had the
problem.

as a temporary fix, start..ctrl..sounds... .. "place volue control
icon in the taskbar"
uncheck it, click apply
check it, click apply

but for permanence.. I had to do something else ..

I had had it the taskbar set to "hide inactive icons" a useful setting.
The vol ctrl stopped disappearing when I set the vol icon it to "Always
show"
start(right click it)..properties...taskbar(the tab)..customize
(see list of icons, say which to "Always show" or "Always hide").
