i8042prt problems (corrected spelling)

Typical symptoms:

Can't run disk clean up
Large .ppt files capture all CPU (apparently)

Error message under computer management/system tools/event viewer/system is

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
i8042prt

Any ideas? TIA. (sorry for the mistakes in the previous)
